Tec Studio provided architectural lighting design services for the renovation of Ohio University’s Latitude 39.

Within a busy Student Center, the University recently pursued a refresh of an existing dining space.  The newly remodeled pub atmosphere has allowed the renovated space to become a new favorite on campus, surpassing the older institutional feel of other local options. Lighting became an integral design component in this themed dining space using multiple decorative styles while maintaining a consistent sensibility. Working closely with the interiors team, fixture selection had to receive approval from the University’s culinary team, the University Architect and the Facility and Maintenance department. 

With the University’s “Green” goals in mind, the lighting system operates at 42% less than allowable energy consumption at only 0.81 watts per square foot. All sources are LED and dimmable and the project included daylight harvesting where applicable.  Decorative luminaires were specified with dimmable retrofit LED lamps as a cost effective solution to ensure the design remained within the limited budget.  The decorative luminaires required de-rated labeling for retrofit sources while the track included current limiting devices to ensure reduced energy consumption.  Phase adaptive power modules were placed on all decorative dimming loads to ensure compatibility between source and dimming protocol- if future re-lamping differs. Controls included a small five scene preset system with astronomical timeclock. The entire project, including both design and construction time was completed within 9 months to fit within the University’s limited tight academic calendar.
